I found a little unused verse of I Chronicles where we learn of a man named Nimrod during my personal time with God two days ago.
Ever heard of a nimrod before? The only time I ever heard this name was when we heard "Don't be such a nimrod!"
Well, what is the definition of a nimrod?
The American Heritage Dictionary offers two distinct definitions of a nimrod -- either a hunter, or a person regarded as silly or foolish.
The dictionary goes on to explain that the second meaning probably originated with the cartoon character Bugs Bunny. Bugs Bunny used the term in its original sense to refer to hunter, Elmer Fudd, whom he called a "poor little Nimrod." Over time, however, the "hunter" meaning got dropped.
So does the Bible say anything about Nimrod? Check it out!!
I Chronicles 1:10 - "Cush was also the ancestor of Nimrod, who was the first heroic warrior on earth."
Nimrod was a warrior, the first known warrior on earth. Before Samson, before David, before Caleb, before Benaiah, and other heroes in the Bible.
A warrior is often looked upon as foolish or silly because of their nature to take risks and do whatever it takes to save others or whatever it takes to destroy/defeat their enemy.
I guess I'd rather be a Nimrod like the one mentioned in I Chronicles than the one Bugs Bunny called Elmer Fudd. You may feel like Elmer Fudd at times, but I want to encourage you that God sees you like a heroic warrior and not a stumbling, foolish cartoon.
Which Nimrod will you believe yourself to be? I'll take God over Bugs Bunny any day!

Must mean I'm a Fudd-y nimrod.
Hey I've read some on Nimrod the warrior and early leader of the human race according to many scholars . Acording to Genesis 10:9-10,CHAPTER 11 also with the scripture you read. I have books that mention ancient religions that link them back to a specific point in time at the tower of Babel when historically Nimrod may have married a family member most likely his sister or mother and they had a child that the people would worship as the protector of human civilization. This ancient religion is mentioned through out scripture and history in all cultures under various names and in many forms of worship but have similiarities. Names are Saturnalia ,Sun God,Morning Star Ishtar,Ninnana,Diana and mentioned as the Queen of Heaven. Not to be deep but there is even forms of this religious practice in Christianity with out recognizing this ancient deity as Christians we worship Christ alone as are saviour. God bless I enjoy the blog you put out I can get a feel for who you are.
